Temakwa Kennels

Vixen is an 8 year old female, sister to Raven.  Vixen is a regular point dog but can also be an excellent back up lead dog.  She could run lead more often if only she were interested in the task.  Vixen has completed The Yukon Quest twice and the Iditarod once.  Vixen does not allow herself to get pushed around when running and is known for putting younger males in their place when they get too wild beside her.  In the yard Vixen loves playing with her pup Jake.

Sookie is a 6 year old female who seems to constantly prance on the line.  She loves to run no matter where we hitch her up, in the team, on point or as a back up leader.  Sookie is a true pet always looking for any available attention and she loves to play with her neighbor Champ.

Tommy is an 8 year old male who has finished The Yukon Quest twice. Tommy is able to run in most positions but proves to be a distracted lead dog even at his age.  Not a fan of dirt training, you don’t see Tommy’s full strength and dedication until you have seen him in front of a sled.  When in the yard Tommy is most often found in his house relaxing.

Bruno is a four year old male, and one of Cagney’s puppies.  Bruno started his season as a wheel dog but is slowly moving his way up the team as he improves both mentally and physically.  While he’s relatively untrained, Bruno is showing us that he has the capacity to do more than just pull. When in his yard Bruno enjoys relaxing on the roof of his house searching the surrounding forest for passing animals.

Leggs is an energetic 5 year old male.  Leggs has rapidly become a favorite lead dog in the yard this season, due to his increased focus as well as his “let’s get going” attitude.  Leggs acts as a cheerleader within the team barking his encouragement on hills or tough terrain.  In his yard, Leggs will always accept a friendly scratch.

Pumpkin is an 8 year old female who started her life as a pet.  Pumpkin was raised in the kennel but sold as a pet and lived that way for a year and half until she was returned to us due to her abundant energy.  Now pumpkin happily spends her days running as a point or team dog.

Olive is a four year old female who still acts like a puppy.  There are two things that Olive loves and they are running and hunting.  It is not uncommon to find Olive's ears perked and ready in anticipation of the many partridge that live on our training trails.  Olive is an enthusiastic team and wheel dog.

Peaches is an 8 year old male who has completed both The Yukon Quest and the Iditarod.  Peaches is a reliable lead dog who does not take being put in team lightly.  He enjoys the pressure and special attention of being a main lead dog.  Peaches loves to run free in the yard and is a big softy for a bum scratch.

Louie is a four year old male and another one of Cagney’s pups.  Louie has a dual personality being extremely timid in his yard and outwardly friendly when you have a harness in hand.  When he knows he is going to run he licks your face and yips like a young puppy, anxious to go.  Louie runs in team or as a wheel dog due to his focus on pulling and not much else.

Cagney is a 9 year old female and mother to much of the kennel.  Cagney has completed The Yukon Quest twice and is almost always on point.  Cagney is another reliable lead dog if she is needed but would rather be on point due to her passive and timid personality.  Cagney may not always appear ready for a run but when the command is given she charges forward without hesitation.

Jake is a 6 year old male who has completed The Yukon Quest and is one of Vixen’s puppies.  Jake is slightly more relaxed than some of the other males when in harness.  He is willing to work when he is needed but when the team is trucking along Jake is quick to take a short break.  In the yard you can always count on Jake to spring on you with a hug, his front legs catching your waist and clinging on in hopes of some return affection.

Champ is a 4 year old male who contains a dual personality.  When in the yard his teddy bear face and gentle demeanor make you wonder if he is able to muster enough energy to get out of his house in the morning.  But don’t be fooled.  When in harness this boy becomes a ball of energy.  Champ is a full time wheel dog and happy to do it.

Raven is an 8 year old female who has finished The Yukon Quest twice.  A reliable lead and point dog, Raven is ready to run any time.  In the kennel, Raven is often outside of her house socializing with her companions close by.

Squirrel, a 4 year old female, shares a shyness trait with her mother Cagney.  Timid around strangers she is an extremely loyal friend to the people she is familiar with.  Squirrel is an amazing worker and is one of our faster runners.  She normally runs in the team but is working on becoming a leader.  When in the yard, Squirrel is the first to exit her house in hopes of a friendly pat.

Marcos is a 4 year old male who has completed a handful of mid-distance races.  Marcos started his season in the team but has quickly moved himself up to lead proving that he has the right attitude for the task.  Eager to go, Marcos has yet to hesitate while in front  of the team.  During feeding time, it is easy to point out Marcos as he is the loudest dog barking over all the others.  He and six other dogs came to us this year from William Kleedehn’s Limp-Along-Kennels.

Nora is a 2 year old female and probably the friendliest dog in the yard, often seen standing straight up on her back feet, front paws outstretched in hopes of attracting you over to pet her.  Nora is another Kleedehn dog and is a hard working team dog.  Nora is often seen checking in with the driver, and is quick to respond to commands.

Baha is a 2 year old male with plenty of drive to run.  A pup from Kleedehn’s kennel, Baha is proving to be an excellent team dog with potential of moving up.  While he’s slightly timid at first, it does not take long to win this dog’s affection.  When running, Baha keeps his head down except for the occasional check back to see how the driver is doing.  In the yard, you never see Baha in his house, he is either running laps up and over his house or basking in the brief midday sun.

Rocket is a 7 year old male from Limp-Along-Kennels.  This quiet male is often found overseeing the kennel from his rooftop.  The only time this dogs speaks is when he is harnessed or when you scratch his underbelly resulting in some content grunting.  Rocket runs in the team or as a point dog, always focused and ready to go.

Margarita is an 8 year old female from Limp-Along-Kennels.  Margarita is always at the front of the team running in point or as a lead dog.  Almost nothing distracts Margarita, except for the horses found on a few of our trails.  In the yard Margarita is quiet and sweet, and can sometimes be caught scratching her back on the door of her house, grunting with pure pleasure.

Blaster is a 4 year old male from Limp-Along-Kennel.  A small, muscular male blaster is one of the hardest working dogs in the kennel, always pulling, head down, absorbed in his work.  Blaster is a team and wheel dog who likes to go fast.  Blaster is extremely curious, constantly watching to see what is going on, always following whoever might be in the yard to see what they might be up to.

Rowa is a 1 year old pup from Limp-Along-Kennels who is full of energy and enthusiasm.  He's still playful and it is pure amusement to watch Rowa in his yard as there is no telling what he might be doing.  When harnessed, Rowa is an extremely hard worker, always running in the team with his head down.  With good training, Rowa will become an excellent sled dog in the future.
